James Daniel Jordan was born on February 17, 1964, in Troy, Ohio, USA. He is the son of Shirley and John Jordan, with one brother, Jeff Jordan. Jordan was reared in Champaign County, Ohio.
He attended Graham High School and was a very talented wrestler. He won state titles in four years and finished 156-1.
Jordan attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison after graduating from high school and went on to win two NCAA Division I wrestling championships. Jordan earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1986.

Jim Jordan’s career began as a college wrestler and wrestling coach. From 1987 until 1995, he served as an assistant coach for the wrestling department at Ohio State University. Jordan was a two-time NCAA national champion wrestler and former college wrestling coach.
Jordan was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in November 1994 and spent three terms representing the 85th Ohio House District. He then went on to represent Ohio’s 4th congressional district, which included Lima, Mansfield, Marysville, Marion, and sections of Columbus.
